Reddit is in talks with Sam Altman's World ID to implement a biometric verification system that scans users' irises without storing personal data. The MOVE aims to address growing concerns over AI impersonation, bot-related abuse, and age verification laws while preserving anonymity.
CEO Steve Huffman emphasized the platform's commitment to maintaining both humanness and anonymity, citing recent incidents like University of Zurich researchers using AI to mimic real users. Legal actions have already been taken against unauthorized experiments.
The partnership WOULD allow Reddit to verify user uniqueness and age without compromising privacy—a critical need as regulators intensify scrutiny of social media identity systems.
